Position Summary
Better Home Care is actively recruiting an Experienced Medical Records Clerk to join our administrative team. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented and experienced in handling medical records, particularly in a home health care environment. You’ll be responsible for managing, organizing, and auditing patient medical records in compliance with state and federal regulations.
Key Responsibilities
Maintain and audit Medicare patient files.
Retrieve and file patient charts and documents.
Communicate with HHAs, CNAs, LPNs, and RNs to collect necessary medical information.
Prepare file labels and ensure records are correctly sequenced.
Respond to internal and external medical records requests.
Handle and direct incoming calls professionally.
Perform pre-billing audits of medical records.
Collaborate with the billing department to ensure timely billing.
Distribute reports and information to relevant departments.
Request missing documents and follow up with the necessary personnel.
Copy, fax, and send medical documents as needed.
Ensure physician orders are signed and up-to-date.
Maintain office supply levels and inform supervisors of any issues.
Perform additional tasks as assigned by supervisor.
Qualifications
Associate degree in Business or Medical field (Required)
Minimum 1 year of experience in Medical Records (Required)
Familiarity with Medicare/Medicaid documentation requirements
Experience in medical billing and coding, preferably in a home health setting
Excellent customer service and telephone communication skills
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment
